Dr. Mónica Echeverry Rendón

Currently, she is the head of the BCD group. Her academic and professional background reflects multidisciplinary expertise in materials engineering, biology, and medicine. Her work focuses on the biological validation of materials and the development of new medical devices.

Dr. Monsur Islam

B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering, Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Monsur Islam is a Marie-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at IMDEA Materials. He received his doctoral degree from Clemson University in the United States in advanced manufacturing of carbonaceous materials for healthcare diagnostics. His current research at IMDEA includes 3D printing of functional carbon materials for multifunctional purposes, including tissue engineering and energy applications.

Dr. Mahdi Sabbaghian

B.Sc. Materials Science and Engineering, Ph.D. Materials Science and Engineering

Dr. Mahdi Sabbaghian is a Marie-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at IMDEA Materials. He works on biodegradable, additively-manufactured magnesisum (mg.) alloys. His expertise is in their development, deformation and microstructural-property relationships. His aim is to research the effects of coatings on the corrosion behaviour and biological aspects of mg. alloys to be used in the human body.

Dr. Jesús Ordoño

B.Sc. Biotechnology, Ph.D. Biomedical Engineering 

Dr. Jesús Ordoño is an IMDEA Materials research associate and adjunct professor in Bioengineering at the University Carlos III of Madrid. He researches 3D-printed metamaterials characterisation and the development of new in vitro models for cardiovascular applications and biomaterial testing. He is also the founder and vice-president of the Spanish Society of Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering.

Ángela García de la Camacha Díaz

 M.Sc. Materials Science and Engineering

Ángela de la Camacha is a Ph.D. student in the BCD group at IMDEA Materials Institute. Her multidisciplinary academic and professional background reflects long expertise in mechanics, 3D printing, material science and engineering. Her current work focuses on bioabsorbable multimaterial 3D printed scaffolds for cartilage, bone and osteochondral regeneration.

Guillermo Domínguez

M.Sc. Biomedical Engineering

Guillermo Domínguez is a Ph.D. student in the BCD group at IMDEA Materials. He studied a B.Sc. in Materials Engineering at the Technical University of Madrid, and an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College of London. His work focuses on the characteriaation of microstructure, corrosion and biocompatibility of Zn and Mg alloys for bone and cardiovascular applications.

Yuyao Liu

M.Sc. Chemistry

Yuyao Liu is a Ph.D. student in the Biometals, Coatings and Devices group at IMDEA Materials Institute. Her academic and professional background reflects multidisciplinary expertise in chemistry, material science and engineering, 3D printing and biology. Her work focuses on biomimetic 3D-printed scaffolds for cartilage, bone and osteochondral regeneration.

Nafiseh Mollaei

 M.Sc. Materials Science and Engineering

Nafiseh Mollaei is a Ph.D. student in the BCD Group at IMDEA Materials. Her expertise is in materials characterisation, mechanical behaviour, and deformation mechanisms of metals, focusing on optimising thermomechanical processes to develop biodegradable metals. She designs and optimises 3D-printed zinc-based scaffolds for cardiovascular stents.

Dr. Adrián Bouzas

Ph.D. Molecular Biology

Adrián Bouzas is a former research associate at IMDEA Materials. His fundamental background in Chemistry and Molecular Biology, combined with his experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry, allowed him to specialize in Translational Research. He is involved in a multidisciplinary project developing an implantable device for brain tumor treatment using electrical fields.
